His granduncle’s chamber had changed drastically, and it was hard not to notice. All his ancient, dusty scrolls that had been lying around for decades now had their own place on the tidied shelves. The vast desk of the Old Vulture had also been cleaned, with only a few papers remaining on it. Marcus was standing close to it, listening to an explanation being given by Kora. While strange, this wasn’t the most drastic change. For as long as Appius could remember, his granduncle was an inseparable part of this room. He would always be sitting there, at his desk, reading one scroll or another. This time, however, his usual place was now occupied by a woman.

The autumn brought incessant rain to the seashore of Hibernia. Grey leaden skies hung low over the choppy waters, making the place look more vivid than usual. It was almost as if all the world’s colors fled from the unfriendly wildlands of Appius Lancer’s homeland.

Travian: Tides of Conquest ~ The Old Vulture’s Nest ~ The village of bricks [1/5]

The old barn looked incredibly ugly. Whenever anyone would see it for the first time, they would usually freeze on the spot, taking a closer look at the simple household utility. Only after a while were they able to keep moving, looking back a few times to let the image sink well into their memory. There was nothing unusual per se about this barn. Well, besides a few things. The jerry-rigged wooden barn had a classic Roman portico with two crooked clay columns at its entrance. As if that alone wasn’t enough, the barn also had a tower on the roof. It was too small to serve any purpose other than to be decorative but large enough to be noticed from a far distance. It was apparent that someone enthusiastic, yet inexperienced, worked hard to make it one of the best barns ever, and they succeeded… somehow.
