Legends on Tour: Meet Safiren

If you don’t know who our next guest is you’ve probably been living under a rock! She’s is our official tournament journalist and a long time player of Travian and we’re thrilled to finally meet her in person here at the Travian Games HQ for the Legends on Tour event. Meet Safiren, from Sweden!

For the readers who don’t know you, can you tell us a little bit about yourself, and for how long you’ve been playing Travian?

I’m from Sweden, female and 62 years old. I started to play Travian February 2008 when my youngest son said to me ” All around me is so mean 🙁 “.  “Maybe I can help you”, I said after which I gathered a dozen friends – (all noobs but nerds) and started playing 4 months late in the server. We had an advantage though, we knew how to communicate through IRC (this was before Skype) and we were already a team and everyone had his/her role.

Eventually, we picked up more members and ended in the Top 10, with a WW that we managed to get up to level 72. “You came from nowhere!” the other alliances said. One and a half years later my husband went crazy because was playing 24/7, and I had to stop. I was still addicted though and began to read the forum where I found a quartet that made a newspaper about their server, I asked to join and there my career as Travian reporter began. 

What is it about Travian that has made it more than a game to you? What makes it so special?

The little round village, the strategy and most of all – all players you meet. I think it is the social part that has made Travian so fun.

What is one of your favorite memories playing Travian?

Do I have to choose only one? There are so many joyful memories… Maybe I shall tell you about the time I made a bet with myself on how many Qualification servers I could qualify in. In 2014 there were 15 qual servers. I played for real on 4 of them, International, Asia, Luso, and Scandinavia. On the rest, I kept to 5-6 villages. I had 111 villages in the end. 

On Scandinavia I had a dual from Ukraine, he started his mornings with attacks on the Russian players around which left me to defend against them the following night. I loved my Unique confusion artifact! My fellow defender players laughed and produced more defense, the Russians laughed on their forum because I always had a rest of my defense to the right village in time. I lost one conquered village because I simply forgot to build the residence, doh.. But I managed to win 3000 gold as 3rd rank defender.

The bet? I qualified on 11 of the 15 servers. I will never be so crazy and do that again!
And what about my husband? Well, it was tricky but he never realized the extent of how much I was playing. He thought I was only writing about the game…

What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming Legends on Tour event?

To meet the other invited players which I have got to know writing my Corner! And also the ones that are new acquaintances. It is so exciting! I also hope that this event will be a bridge between the players and the Travian Company 🙂
