Meet the Team: Sami, Community Manager
Welcome to another edition of Meet the Team! This time we meet Sami (or Samisu on the Forums), our Community Manager and CSR for Finland.
Hi Sami, thank you very much for letting us interview you! Let’s start with the usual questions, where are you from and for how long have you been working for Travian Games?
Hi! I’m from southern Finland and I started as Rail Nation Community Manager Fall 2016. And before that, I’ve had a couple of years of experience being in the Translation Team.
How did you discover Travian: Legends?
First through translations – had to learn more about the game. Then I was picked as the next CM/CSR for Travian: Legends Finland in Spring 2017.
What kind of player are you?
Travian: Legends? Bad! I mean I like to create villages and grow population but I always get the worst neighbors 😉
I’ve been playing games all my life; mostly playing RPGs, tactical strategy games or combinations of these two. I remember being told by my parents and by some of my friends to stop with the games. ‘It’s not what grown-ups should be doing!’ Games can be much more, and I think for me it’s the stories and adventures that pulled me in.
What do you like the most about being a CM?
People. I don’t think I can ever get bored with all the different personalities, laughs and challenges. And I think players can sense it too, it’s a two-way street.
Can you share a particular highlight for you during your role as a CM for Travian?
It has to be one of those moments when I have finally gained someone’s trust. For example with Travian: Legends, it became quite evident that I had very little experience with playing the game when I started as CM.
To me, it was a fun icebreaker idea to suggest a Travian slang dictionary thread on the forum, so I could follow all these community discussions. Players, on the other hand, respected those they had fought wars against. But, in the end, I started to receive messages from players thanking me, and I knew they felt appreciated and heard. That’s one heck of a highlight, and a big thank you goes to the FI team (Sove, Kadonnut, Lantti and Makkonen)
Lastly, what’s the funniest thing you have read on the forums?
I’ve laughed aloud so many times! For sure the black humor in certain diplomacy threads.
Thank you all for reading our interview with Sami, we hope you enjoyed it. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to leave them in the comments below! Until next time, happy raiding!
